As a long-time Northwest painter, I continue my exploration of line--referencing a growing collection of symbols and motifs, transforming them as metaphors for larger ideas. It is a vocabulary that is largely based on domestic objects, common tools, and discarded objects. For the last 20 years I have worked in encaustic, an ancient technique of painting with wax. For me, making art is a delicate balance of pushing ahead then dropping back to listen and to see. It’s a balance of knowing and not knowing and trusting that.
